Symptoms Of Dog Labor:
How do you know that your dog is ready to give birth? Just like humans, pets too undergo labor. The first symptoms that your dog is about to go on labor is a considerable drop in body temperature. Usually, 24 hours before giving birth, your dogs temperature might drop to about 97 to 98 degrees. | ||

This is normal, but if your does not begin labor within a day of the temperature drop it is best to call your vet. There are cases when your dog might feel sick. This is a normal behavior and the best medical intervention you can do is to make sure that there is fresh water available every time. Sometimes, days before the actual labor, your dog might vomit in order to empty the stomach. In other cases, she might refuse to eat. Again, this is an early warning sign that your dog is about to give birth. Another tale sign is when your pet frequently “makes” and “unmakes” her bed. Sometimes, she insists in hiding under the bed or continually digs and turns things upside down. Female dogs look for a comfortable place where they can give birth and enclosed spaces usually provide them comfort. You will notice that she is always anxious and will have periods of deep sleep and insomnia. She is also intolerant of other pets and might hide from strangers. There are also cases when she can become aggressive especially if there are other animals in the house. There are several cases when the dog will look backwards when walking as if shes afraid of losing something. There will also be moments when she will stare at her owners, if not follow them all around the house. Your presence is reassurance that everything will be fine. Remember: dog pregnancies are short, usually 63 days so you need to prepare for your dogs birth beforehand. Find a comfortable place where she can nurse her puppies. It is preferred that you put her in a location where she will not be disturbed. |
